BALLOT BALLET
Ballot Ballet turns European politics into a mechanical dance. Identical robots move in an arena, each carrying the face of a European leader — until collisions decide who remains. A reflection on power, responsibility, and what happens when no one steps in.
Ballot Ballet examines the fragility of collective decision-making in the European Union. Built on cooperation, responsibility, and shared values, the EU faces growing pressure as national interests slow progress and accountability fades.
The installation stages a model scenario: In an arena, identical robots move freely — equal in design, speed, and purpose. Each carries a helium balloon printed with the face of a European head of government. Once the system starts, the robots roam randomly. Every time two collide, one balloon detaches — one country drops out. Eventually, only one remains: The Last Delegate. This head of state symbolically takes control over the EU for one year.
The outcome is random, but the questions it raises are real: How does power function when no one mediates? When responsibility becomes secondary?
Ballot Ballet invites reflection on the structures that shape Europe — and on the individual’s role within them.
